Obra elegíaca como ninguna otra donde la representación del binomio vida-muerte aparece repartida por toda la superficie de la misma. La composición grandilocuente y teatral se dispone a modo de un gran cuadro escénico en el que parece representarse - con una visión onírica y surreal - lo que pudiera ser el episodio último de la Pasión de Cristo. El telón de fondo está lleno de significaciones. Las casas que se abren a izquierda y derechas evocan los perfiles urbanos del barrio madrileño que acoge al artista desde su llegada a la capital. La calle que se abre en empinada cuesta con escalinatas (centro superior), es una evocación de su Cáceres natal.
